The
Uxbridge Town Trail system is a network of trails in
the town of Uxbridge with the goal to connect to the major trails to
the south (the Trans-Canada Trail and the Oak Ridges Trail). Each
trail has a volunteer Trail Captain and a team of volunteers who
maintain the trail. The Town Trail system is a program of the
Township of Uxbridge, the "Uxbridge, Naturally" group and other
volunteer groups. Historical information on the trails is
provided by the Uxbridge Historical Centre.
The Uxbridge Town
Trails have four aims:
-
help residents to appreciate the beauty of their town
- link various sections of town together for walkers and bikers
- encourage healthy outdoor exercise
- foster appreciation of the natural environment
Eight trails are already in place with more in the planning stages:
The
Quaker Trail (2.2km)
The South Balsam Trail (2.5km)
The Wooden Sticks Trail (2km) The Ewen Trail (3.4km)
The Historic Trail (2.4km) The Maple Bridge Trail (1.5km)
The Barton Trail (2km) The Countryside Preserve Trail
(network of 6km of trails)
What's in the future?
The overall plan is to create
Countryside Trails
radiating out from town, and eventually connecting most of the
hamlets and communities within the Township. This complete
trail system consisting of the Town
Trails and the
Countryside Trails will all connect with the
Trans-Canada Trail (which crosses the entire country) and the Oak
Ridges Trail (spanning the 150km of the Oak Ridges Moraine).
