Hockey - A Family Sport....It's 6:45 a.m. on a Saturday morning. Seven
year old Michael races from the family van into the hockey arena.
He doesn't want to be late for his hockey game. Dad lags
behind with a coffee cup in hand - but it's not because he's tired
from the night before. He's helping Michael's grandparents out
of the van. Michael has brought his own cheering section -
Mom, Dad, sister, grandma and grandpa.
There's nothing like hockey that can get a whole family to a cold arena this early on a Saturday morning.
The Whitchurch Stouffville Minor Hockey
Association (WSMHA) is an organization for children and youth from
ages 4-20. We believe hockey should be FUN and that it is a
great sport that will keep children and youth active and healthy.
It teaches self discipline and teamwork and helps players to develop
a sense of personal achievement. Hockey is a life long sport
that can be played at almost any age and hockey for adults and
seniors is growing in popularity.
But, hockey is a great activity for all members
of the family. Parents, siblings and grandparents can referee,
timekeep and work at fundraising events or tournaments. And of
course, they can cheer on their favourite team.
850 boys and girls play hockey with the WSMHA.
Our house league players are called the Stouffville Spitfires and
our rep teams are known as the Stouffville Clippers. Hockey
can be an expensive sport, but we believe every child who wants to
play, should have the opportunity. We work with families in
financial need to arrange payment plans, sponsorship or help in
finding equipment.
