Parents Action on Drugs’
mission is to address issues of substance use among youth through
outreach, prevention, education, and parent support.
PAD
enhances the capacity of parents, youth and communities to promote
an environment that encourages youth to make informed choices.
Parents Action on Drugs
develops and provides a growing bank of programs and resources on
alcohol and other drugs.
We work with professionals, parents and caregivers to help
youth understand the risks around these issues and how to reduce or
prevent harm.
PAD focuses on three basic areas:
The first point of
PREVENTION
is in the home. With
this in mind, PAD offers parents and other caregivers’
up-to-date information to increase their knowledge about today’s
various drugs as well as helps parents prepare for the social and
emotional challenges their children face every day.
PAD has been a leader in implementing
innovative, peer led programs that involve older teens helping to
EDUCATE
younger teens and providing
information to lower the risks associated with teenage
partying.
PAD works with other organizations to
provide curriculum support materials to help teachers deliver
current, relevant classroom activities in health and physical
education and social sciences as well as comprehensive workshops and
training opportunities for teachers, health professionals and other
front-line community workers.
For parents, PAD offers strategies for communicating
and problem solving specific to their needs. Through our
confidential telephone support service, we provide information and
referrals to
SUPPORT
parents in their efforts to work through the process of
understanding the problems and identifying the solutions.
