Karen, a young Stouffville, ON mother, has

shared with us the point system she

used last summer with her three

active sons to help them get

get their chores done and

create a little excitement

for them.

"Each day the individual would receive a star on the monthly calendar by following the simple rules which were laid out by me.

Rules to be followed daily:

jClean up after yourselves

jBrush hair and teeth without being asked

jNo whining

jNo fighting

jComplete your chore of the day (see below)

jDo as you are asked the first time

After receiving 5 stars, they could get a prize or small

thing with their stars.  They also had the opportunity

opportunity to save their stars for something larger if they wished.  I had Pokémon cards which they all

liked and they could choose 12 cards every 5 stars.

Chores:

I made up a "spin the wheel" with 6 different

chores on it.  Which ever chore they landed on

they had to do that day as part of their star for

the day.  This worked out well because they

liked it and usually got a different chore to do.

Not to mention they learned how to clean and

vacuum after doing it once and I didn't have

to spend time teaching it to them after that."
