Programs for Young Families

At each program we
help build supportive relationships between parents
and provide families with support both in a group setting and one to
one. We are able to help families with housing, food banks,
doctors, health, schooling, child care and parenting skill
development.
Beaverton Young Parents
The
Beaverton Young Parents program runs weekly on
Tuesdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
at St. Andrew's United
church
on Simcoe Street.
This is a FREE drop in program for
young families with children aged
0-6 years. Parents and children are provided with a healthy lunch,
play time, craft and circle time. Parents are able to meet
with staff for 1:1 parenting support and counseling. On the
third week of each month the program is held at the Beaverton
Library to help parents build their children's literacy skills at an
early age and participate in an active story telling time with their
children.
Cannington Young Parents
The Cannington Young Parents program runs
Mondays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
at Trinity United Church located at 50
Laidlaw
Street. This is a FREE drop in program for young
families with children aged 0-6 years. Free play, circle time
and craft are available to facilitate parent-child interactions.
We offer a healthy snack and parents are
welcome to meet with staff
for 1:1 parenting support and counseling.
Port Perry Young Parents
The young parents program in Port Perry offers
young moms and families a weekly drop in program. The program,
which runs each Wednesday from 10:30 to 2:00 p.m.
at the
Port Perry United
Church at the corner of Queen Street and Simcoe Street in Port
Perry. The program consists of free play and craft time in the
morning & games and circle time in the afternoon. Moms help
prepare a healthy hot
meal for lunch and have a 1 hour workshop in
the afternoon.
Afternoon "parent time" includes parenting programs, lessons on
child development and skills, family health, crafts and baking.
This is a FREE program
for
parents, lunch included, and free child care is provided during
the afternoon.
These programs are facilitated by the Family and Community Action Program (FCAP) in co-operation with the Rose of Durham Young Parent Support Services and the Durham Region Health Department. Funding provided by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
